VERONA, Wis. — Verona Area High School boys hockey coach John Biser returned to coaching last Wednesday following an investigation into player misconduct.
The Verona Area School District announced earlier this month that Biser would not be coaching until further notice after allegations of player misconduct. The district said the allegations did not pertain to sexual misconduct or other criminal actions, but rather violations of district policy and team expectations.
In a statement to Channel3000.com on Monday, a district spokesperson said the investigation has been completed. Because of federal and state privacy laws, records on student discipline could not be publicly released.
As part of Biser’s return to coaching, the district plans to have increased monitoring and supervision of the team locker rooms and buses as well as leadership development for the team.
“All players will be expected to know and adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and the program’s expectations for leadership and conduct on and off the ice,” district spokesperson Marcie Pfeifer-Soderbloom said. “With clear expectations and continued monitoring in place, the district will move forward with a focus on student safety, accountability, and positive team culture.”
The team’s next game is scheduled for Tuesday at home against Arrowhead.
