San Jose Sharks top goalie prospect and 2025 NHL Draft first round pick Josh Ravensbergen will reportedly play at Michigan State University next season.
The 19-year-old’s announcement hasn’t been made official, but NHL Insider for ESPN Kevin Weekes tweeted about the goalie’s decision.
Ravensbergen attended the Sharks development camp in July after he was drafted 30th overall in the Draft. Ravensbergen currently plays in the Western Hockey League for the Prince George Cougars. He’s had a fantastic season with a 19-9-0 record, .916 save percentage, and a 2.67 goals against average.
San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier spoke to fans during a state of the team event and hinted at Ravensbergen’s soon-to-be swap into NCAA Hockey.
Although he didn’t play for Team Canada, he was named to its roster for the 2026 IIHF World Juniors with Sharks forward Michael Misa.
MSU is currently ranked No. 2 in the country in all of the NCAA. The Division I program sports a 19-5-0 record and is considered a serious contender for the National Championship. MSU has a long history of players going into the NHL and going pro, including Rod Brind’Amour, Torey Krug, Duncan Keith, and current Sharks scout and goalie coach Ryan Miller.
2024 NHL Draft No. 2 pick overall, Artyom Levshunov attended MSU and was picked right behind Macklin Celebrini. Reigning Hobey Baker Award winner Isaac Howard is signing with the Edmonton Oilers this offseason and has just begun his NHL career.
The San Jose Sharks’ top goalie prospect should expect to be the No. 1 goalie for a storied NCAA Hockey program next season.
