The New York Rangers found their spark on Monday night when they hosted the Boston Bruins after losing three straight during a four-game road trip. In a back-and-forth battle that went into overtime, Matthew Robertson delivered the final blow in the extra frame to secure the 4-3 win for the Rangers. Despite their two-game win streak being put to an end, the Bruins remained dangerous throughout the game as Elias Lindholm found the back of the net twice to help Boston walk away with a hard-earned point. The Rangers head to UBS Arena to take on the Islanders on Wednesday, and the Bruins are back on home ice on Tuesday to host the Nashville Predators.

Will Cuylle gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 10:15 of the first period, right off the face-off, when Urho Vaakanainen fired from the left point, and Cuylle, in the left circle, deflected it into the net. Boston answered when Elias Lindholm knotted it up 1-1, picking up his 10th of the season when an attempted cross-ice pass by David Pastrnak to Hampus Lindholm in the left circle ended up hitting off J.T. Miller in the slot, and Lindholm collected it, putting a wrist shot in past Jonathan Quick at 7:51. Only 26 seconds later, Miller untied the knot to put New York back in front 2-1 with his 14th of the season from the right circle on a one-timer. Mika Zibanejad took a pass from Miller before driving through the neutral zone and into Boston’s end along the left side before sending a backhanded pass to Perreault, who skated into the left circle before handing the puck over to Miller.

Early into the middle frame, Lindholm found the back of the net for his second of the night to make it 2-2 when he scored off a rebound from between the circles after Pastrnak’s shot from the high slot was blocked. Charlie McAvoy intercepted a clearing attempt by Miller through the middle of the Rangers’ defensive zone, fed Pastrnak, whose shot was blocked before Lindholm finished it off for his 11th goal of the season. Morgan Geekie gave the Bruins their first lead of the night when he took a backhanded pass from Pastrnak, surprising Quick from the left circle with a fast, short-side shot for his 29th of the season with 11:08 on the clock of the second.

Will Borgen tied it 3-3 with just 6:17 left to play in regulation when he took a pass from Artemi Panarin, who picked up the puck from along the wall on the left side before sending it to the right for Borgen to fire from above the right circle. His shot appeared to deflect in off Andrew Peeke past Joonas Korpisalo.

Matthew Robertson won it in overtime with just 1:08 to go when he put the puck home on a breakaway with his fourth goal of the season after getting the puck from Quick, rushing past Pavel Zacha, and finding the back of the net for the 4-3 win.
