Calgary Flames fans should be feeling quite good about what Zayne Parekh has shown as of late.
The 19-year-old, who set a Canadian record at the World Juniors with 13 points, was sent to the AHL 10 days ago as part of a conditioning stint. The hope was that he could continue to build his confidence before rejoining the Flames, and so far, things are going as well as anybody could have hoped.
Though Parekh’s first game with the Wranglers on Sunday, Jan. 18, was nothing to write home about, he’s taken big strides in both games since.
After registering two assists in a 5-3 loss to the Laval Rocket this past Saturday, Parekh was able to score two goals in a rematch versus Laval on Monday. Those two goals helped the Wranglers pick up a 6-3 victory.

“I’m feeling really good about my game, especially with the puck right now,” Parekh said. “It’s nice to get a win, it’s been a while since I won a hockey game. Nice to see all the boys happy too.”
While Parekh’s first AHL goal demonstrated his excellent ability to walk the blue line, it was his second goal of the night that showcased his entire skill set on full display.
Nasty stuff for a second goal of the game from Zayne Parekh here. First one was pretty too. Four points in his first three AHL games. Still a period left. pic.twitter.com/4dKO2p4I9R

“I didn’t think I would score from there. I honestly just kind of put it there. There was really nowhere else to shoot or put the puck,” Parekh explained. “I didn’t have another play, so I just put it to the net and got a little lucky.”
While Parekh didn’t seem to want to pump his own tires, Wranglers head coach Brett Sutter had no issue doing so.
“It’s just good to see him making plays. I thought he played with a ton of confidence out there tonight. He didn’t look like a kid at all,” Sutter said. “I thought he handled himself really well. He’s been a big part of the group in the short time he’s been here.”
Parekh is eligible to play just one more game with the Wranglers, which will come on Friday versus the San Jose Barracuda. He will then return to the Flames, where he’ll hope to get more playing time than he had early in the season.
