The New Jersey Devils are holding Ondrej Palat out of action on Tuesday night.

It certainly feels like the kind of roster move that precedes a trade.

Palat is “being held out for roster related reasons,” according to team reporter Amanda Stein.

Yep, sounds like a trade.

Palat is in the fourth year of a five-year, $30 million contract, so an acquiring team would hold him for one more season beyond this one.

The 34-year old winger has played 51 games this season for the Devils. He has just four goals and six assists.

In his NHL career, he  has played 876 games, with 181 goals and 334 assists for 515 points.

Palat has averaged less than 13 minutes of ice time per game this season.

He has spent four seasons with the Devils, rarely being productive to the level he was earlier in his career.

Palat first played for the Tampa Bay Lightning for 10 seasons, and he had 423 of his career points with the Lightning in 628 games.

Palat has done well for himself after originally being a seventh-round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft by Tampa Bay.

He has two Stanley Cup titles with the Lightning, too.

An acquiring team would be hoping his playoff knowledge can come in handy.
