You can never count the Dallas Stars out, even against Connor McDavid and the Oilers.

After being outplayed quite thoroughly through the first two periods, the Stars trailed 3-1. Then, starting 32 seconds into the third period, the Stars scored three power play goals in 5:26 to take the 4-3 lead.

With 3:58 left in the game, Tyler Seguin expanded the lead to 5-3 and Esa Lindell put the game away with an empty-net goal a few seconds later.

Here are some of the reactions to the Stars’ 6-3 comeback victory:

Tyler Seguin on the breakaway.

Dallas is on the board.

That snaps a 10-game scoring drought for Seguin.

1-1

EDM Fs will have to be careful carrying the puck toward the blue line, because DAL wingers play zone coverage and will create a 2v1 at the halfwall like Marchment/Seguin did here: https://t.co/5Of7oTJfpv

That felt too easy.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scores Edmonton’s first road power play goal of the playoffs.

2-1 Oilers

If there’s such a thing as Connor McDavid finding an extra gear up than normal, I feel like somehow he has tonight ?

— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) May 22, 2025

Oh boy.

Evan Bouchard scores.

Edmonton takes a two-goal lead.

End of second: Oilers 3, Stars 1

Stars dug themselves into a hole after two Edmonton goals 1:40 apart.

58 seconds remain on the Stars’ power play when we return.

— Lia Assimakopoulos (@Lassimak) May 22, 2025

32 seconds into the period, Miro Heiskanen scores on the power play.

That is Heiskanen’s first goal since Jan. 9.

Dallas is right back in this one.

3-2

We have a tie hockey game, folks.

Mikael Granlund on the power play.

After going 0-for-14 on the power play against Edmonton last year, the Stars are 2-for-3 tonight.

3-3

— Lia Assimakopoulos (@Lassimak) May 22, 2025

Mikael Granlund is a grown man amongst boys

— Liam Blutman (@Blutman27) May 22, 2025

Oh my goodness.

Matt Duchene has his first of the playoffs just 11 seconds into the power play.

The Stars have three power-play goals this period and a 4-3 lead.

An epic collapse from the Edmonton PK.

— Lia Assimakopoulos (@Lassimak) May 22, 2025

Hockey Axion: NEVER give up a goal in the first minute of a period.
Stars set the tone :32 seconds into the 3rd and never looked back.
Special teams were special.

— Bruce LeVine (@BruceLeVinePuck) May 22, 2025

The Stars went 0-for-14 in their Conference Final series last year with Edmonton.

They’re 3-for-4 in Game 1. #TexasHockey

Watching Roope’s face when he gets hit in the back with Duchene’s shot is my favorite thing. Hahahaha.

— Bob Sturm (@SportsSturm) May 22, 2025

Tyler Seguin scores his second of the night.

That’s four Dallas goals this period.

Wow.

5-3 Stars

— Lia Assimakopoulos (@Lassimak) May 22, 2025

The Dallas Stars have been absolutely unleashed.

— Lia Assimakopoulos (@Lassimak) May 22, 2025

The Oilers entered tonight with the best 3rd period goal diff. in the playoffs (+10).

The Stars slashed that in half in one period tonight.

Wowza #TexasHockey

Dallas Stars. SEXIEST THIRD PERIOD YOU’LL EVER SEE!!! What a performance!! The Drama!!!

— Empty Netters (@EmptyNettersPod) May 22, 2025

Final: Stars 6, Oilers 3

Despite trailing by two goals entering the third period, the Stars went on to score five goals in the last 20 minutes, including three on the power play, to stun Edmonton.

We’ll be back here for Game 2 Friday night.

— Lia Assimakopoulos (@Lassimak) May 22, 2025

Total implosion. Self destruction. After two near perfect playoff periods Oilers in command. Three straight stick penalties. Hat trick of Dallas power play goals. Lose Game 1 they had won. 6-3 final. Beyond belief collapse.
