QMJHL: Lucas Beckman Making an Early Impact in Chicoutimi
Ottawa Senators goaltending prospect Lucas Beckman has made a strong early impression since joining the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, posting a 1–1–0 record, a .914 save percentage, and a 2.50 goals-against average through his first two appearances.
Beckman earned his first win with Chicoutimi against the Charlottetown Islanders, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a composed performance. Both goals against came off the stick of Alexis Beaulieu, who beat Beckman from the short right side—once through the five-hole and once with a precise shot to the top left corner. Outside of those two moments, Beckman looked calm, technically sound, and in control of his crease.

His second start resulted in a loss to the Moncton Wildcats, though the final score hardly reflected Beckman’s overall play. The lone goal he would want back came on Moncton’s third tally, when a misjudged poke-check attempt pulled him out of position, allowing the shooter to slide the puck into an open net. Aside from that sequence, Beckman was excellent, making several high-difficulty saves from all angles and showcasing the athleticism and instincts that made him a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Highlights of the game below.
At present, Beckman is sharing the workload evenly with Raphaël Précourt, and Chicoutimi appears content to let the internal competition play out. With the postseason approaching, the Saguenéens will likely ride the hotter hand.
Chicoutimi currently sits first overall in the CHL for the third consecutive week, firmly establishing itself as one of the most dominant teams in junior hockey. With roughly 20 games remaining, Beckman finds himself in an ideal situation—earning meaningful starts for the CHL’s top-ranked club, with a legitimate chance to backstop a Memorial Cup contender. It’s a tremendous opportunity for a young goaltender early in his development.

 NCAA Update
Kevin Reidler Steals the Show for Penn. State
Another Senators goalie prospect, Kevin Reidler (5th round, 2022), delivered one of the standout performances of the NCAA weekend, turning aside 40 shots in a 3–1 Penn State victory over Wisconsin.
Reidler has been quietly excellent this season, compiling a 10–3–0 record with a .916 save percentage, consistently giving Penn State a chance to win on a nightly basis. His performance against the Badgers was a textbook example of game-stealing goaltending, especially as Wisconsin pushed hard at even strength.
 Wisconsin Badgers Searching for Stability
Unfortunately for Wisconsin, the loss was part of a four-game losing streak, dropping the Badgers from second to fourth in the Big Ten standings. Their upcoming two-game set against fifth-place Minnesota looms large, as another stumble could further complicate their path toward postseason positioning.
Despite the skid, there is still plenty of time to recover. With several Big Ten conference games remaining, Wisconsin remains very much in the mix to regain ground before the Big Ten Tournament and ultimately the Frozen Four.
Senators Skater Prospects: Offensive Signs of Life
Tyson Dyck, Ottawa’s 7th-round pick in 2022, has quietly become a reliable contributor for the Badgers. The senior forward, who struggled to find consistency in previous seasons, has recorded 1 goal and 2 assists over his last four games, earning increased trust and ice time as the season progresses.
Logan Hensler has matched Dyck’s recent production with 1 goal and 2 assists in his last four games, signaling a positive offensive uptick for the young defenseman. After a snake-bitten World Junior Championship and a slow offensive return to NCAA play in early January, Hensler appears to be settling back into his rhythm.
Through 21 games, Hensler now has 4 goals and 8 assists (12 points). For context, Jake Sanderson posted 8 goals and 18 assists (26 points) in 23 games during his second NCAA season. While Hensler isn’t quite tracking at that elite pace yet, the recent surge is encouraging. Continued production over the remaining schedule would go a long way towards solidifying his trajectory as a legitimate top-pair NHL prospect.
