An NHL insider has revealed what the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to get in return for veteran forward Evander Kane before the trade deadline in early March.
The National Hockey League Olympic break is looming and with a roster freeze set to take effect starting on February 4th, meaning no trades can be made between then and February 22nd.
Among those expected to be moved, either before the Olympic roster freeze or the trade deadline on Friday, March 6th, is veteran forward Evander Kane, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day.
Insider reveals what the Vancouver Canucks are seeking in exchange for Evander Kane
“Evander Kane’s agent Dan Milstein has been given permission to help facilitate a trade for his client.” Dhaliwal said.
Prior to puck drop on Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks, Evander Kane expressed his frustration with the ongoing trade rumors and the attention he was getting after seeing his name mentioned on social media.
“I think there’s a lot of names that are out there, and all of a sudden, just because a member of the Vancouver media decides to tweet it out, I got a big scrum today.” Kane said according to Adam Kierszenblat of The Athletic.
Whether Kane likes it or not, those rumors are going to persist up until the day he’s traded and with him set to become a UFA at season’s end, his time in Vancouver is coming to a close very soon as he doesn’t factor into their rebuilding plans.
Further to Rick Dhaliwal’s report that Kane’s agent is helping facilitate a trade, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed while on Oilers Now that the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to receive a third round pick in exchange for him, while retaining a portion of his remaining salary.
“I heard they’re hoping for a 3rd round pick with some retention.” Friedman said.
The Vancouver Canucks currently have two retention spots remaining, so this could work out in their favour, the only issue now is to find a dance partner, with teams like the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings all being linked to Evander Kane in recent weeks.
