The Buffalo Sabres winning streak now sits at following a 7-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Rasmus Dahlin had the first hat trick of his NHL career to go along with two assists in the win.
The team finds itself in third place in the Atlantic Division.
The three goalie system this year has helped get the Sabres to this point due to a few injuries this season.
Case in point – Ukko-Pekka Luukonen leaving with a lower body injury against the Leafs.
Colten Ellis came in and made 16 saves in relief, with Alex Lyon waiting in the wings.
“There are some teams that have carried three and have used them and it’s come in handy too,” head coach Lindy Ruff said. “So in our case, I think it is as you described it’s just worked out for us.”
“We have great communication every day and just pick each others brains and talk about different things that what we are seeing,” Ellis said. “They’ve both helped me a lot, figuring out what I need to do or some things that maybe they’ve seen that they think I can work on. I think it’s important to have that. At the end of the day, we are trying to make the playoffs here and having that is helpful.”
Lyon has actually on fire with nine straight wins in net, tying a Sabres record.
The Sabres are back home at KeyBank Center Thursday to face the Los Angeles Kings.
