Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin is going to have some big decisions to make leading up to the trade deadline following a new report released this week.

We’re just over 30 days away from the National Hockey League’s trade deadline for the 2025-26 season and we’ve already seen action begin to pick up on the market, with the Vancouver Canucks dealing Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks last week, while Carson Soucy and Ondrej Palat were moved to the New York Islanders by the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, respectively. With over 60 percent of the regular season completed for most teams entering action on Thursday, several of them have a good idea on how they’re going to approach the trade deadline and for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks, they’re going to be sellers as the club begins their rebuilding phase.

“We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we’ve definitely always emphasized on getting younger.” Allvin said.

New report reveals Vancouver Canucks have big decisions to make ahead of the trade deadline

In a recent article for The Athletic, NHL insider Chris Johnston updated his trade bait board ahead of the league’s Olympic roster freeze and it features five members of the Vancouver Canucks, led by veteran forward Evander Kane, who comes in at number three on the list, just behind Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trochek of the New York Rangers.

Kane has drawn a ton of interest from teams around the National Hockey League including the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars – who might be the favourite at this point – and the Los Angeles Kings, and there’s a possibility the Vancouver native is moved prior to the Olympic roster freeze.

Joining Evander Kane on Johnston’s updated trade bait board are star forward Elias Pettersson (25th), Conor Garland (34th), David Kampf (38th) and Jake DeBrusk (39th).

Johnston’s list also includes three former Vancouver Canucks as defenseman Luke Schenn comes in at number eight and is expected to be dealt by the Winnipeg Jets at some point before March 6th, while Chicago Blackhawks forwards Ilya Mikheyev (19th) and Jason Dickinson (29th) have become trade bait as the club has fallen further out of the wild card race in the Western Conference.

As the NHL enters one of its busiest periods of the year, it’s going to be very interesting to see what assets Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks walk away with after 12 p.m. PT on March 6th.
