While the Vancouver Canucks cannot top the trade they made earlier in the year, sending Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, the end of January always seems to bring fireworks for the Canucks, some notable people involved in trades such as Bo Horvat, J.T. Miller and Elias Lindholm were all done at the end of January.

“With the team already trading away their top pending unrestricted free agent, Kiefer Sherwood, to the San Jose Sharks over a week ago, the attention has now shifted to others on the Canucks’ roster, with forward Evander Kane reportedly drawing interest from a number of teams, including the Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars.”-Jaxon

Will history repeat itself for the Vancouver Canucks?

Adam Kierszenblat wrote for Yahoo Sports that the Canucks tend to have a pattern of making big deals around this time of the year, with around 60% of the year completed, and the Canucks in dead last in the NHL, they could be looking to make more moves this weekend.

“Over the last three seasons, Vancouver has made a trade on either January 30 or 31. All three years, the move has been substantial as the organization has either traded away or acquired a key player for picks and prospects. Here is a quick look at the three moves.”-Kierszenblat

Miller and Horvat were both traded two years apart on January 31st and 30th respectively. Both trades completely altered the franchise, and ultimately predicted the beginning of the end for this core. Lindholm was acquired in between the two January 31st 2024, where he played a crucial role in their playoff run. But then ended up signing long term with the Boston Bruins. It could be another crazy couple of days for the Canucks once again.
