Connor Bedard recored a goal in the blowout for the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks have not recorded a Power Play Goal in the last 9 games.

First Period:

Tonight’s contest against the Pittsburgh Penguins started brutally slow. Neither team recorded a shot for the first five minutes, combining for two offside calls. Connor Bedard sparked Chicago with a dominant shift, creating prime scoring chances, followed by Tyler Bertuzzi’s two quick shots on Arturs Silovs. Bedard rang the post in a scramble before the Hawks finally broke through.

Ryan Greene battled along the end boards and fed Connor Murphy, cutting across the crease. Murphy buried it top shelf for the 1-0 lead. Pittsburgh answered late as Connor Dewar jammed home a rebound to tie it at 1-1 after one.

Second Period: Hawks Implode

The middle frame belonged to Pittsburgh. The Penguins came out firing while Chicago appeared disorganized. Nolan Accari and Rutger McGroarty both generated prime chances against Arvid Soderblom.

Bedard continued creating offense, but Pittsburgh seized control. After Artyom Levshunov failed to clear the zone, rookie Ben Kindel gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead.

The floodgates opened with five minutes remaining. Newly acquired Yegor Chinakhov deked past Levshunov for a highlight-reel tally, making it 3-1. Seconds later, Anthony Mantha extended the lead to 4-1. With 29 seconds left, Ryan Shea’s slap shot from the point beat Soderblom for Pittsburgh’s fifth goal of the period.

Third Period:

After being shelled in the second frame. Chicago was playing for nothing but pride the rest of the way. Sidney Crosby wow’ed the hometown fans with a between-the-legs deke into a backhand slapshot that nearly beat Soderblom short side. Erik Karlsson also had a great opportunity for the pens, and the other way, Colton Dach made sweet music, hitting the pipe on a wrist shot. After Nolan Accari got a shot from the slot on net, a mad scramble turned into a scrum with fits being thrown. By the end of it, the puck was in the back of the net, and Artyom Levshunov’s gloves were on the ice, taking out the frustration of a rough game.

Despite the rough outing, there was a bright spot in a very dark game. Connor Bedard was able to record his 21st goal tonight with a smooth bar-down rip as Brett Kulak dove across his feet. The Chicago Blackhawks ‘ power play woes and second-period collapse did them in tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 6-2 contest.

The Cowboy Round-Up and What’s On Tap

Wow. I think my eyes are bleeding. Let’s break this loss down into some categories to make this more easily digestible. For one, the power play is still allergic to scoring. Both units, 10 total players unable to get the puck past the red line and light the lamp. The Chicago Blackhawks own penalty kill has had more goals during the time of the cold streak. They went an abysmal 0/5 against Minnesota and 0/2 today.

Secondly, Artyom Andreyevich Levshunov had one of the worst performances I have seen, perhaps ever. This is coming from a man who watched the likes of TJ Brodie and Jarred Tinordi don the red, black, and white for the beloved Hawks. But tonight was too brutal even for me. Dash five, tonight Artyom Levshunov was -5 and DIRECTLY responsible for 4 of the goals that Pittsburgh scored. Walked by Chernyakov, on his knees for Sheas goal, taking his goalie out of the play. Just straight bad. There’s no other word that can describe his play tonight. Honeslty if his struggles continue, it might be time to go to the bullpen for Kevin Korchinski or Sam Rinzel from Rockford.

On tap for the Blackhawks is the final game of the Mom’s trip, which hasn’t bode well so far. The Columbus Blue Jackets enter the Madhouse for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop Friday night.
