The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled defenseman Sam Rinzel prior to their Friday night tilt with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Chicago Blackhawks are making changes to their roster on Friday. Ahead of their matchup with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the team recalled defenseman Sam Rinzel from AHL Rockford. There is no corresponding move at this point, but Rinzel’s promotion could be telling of Artyom Levshunov’s immediate future.
Since he was sent down back in early December, Rinzel has posted solid numbers in the AHL. With 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 19 games, Rinzel seemed to find some of the confidence with the puck that he showed late last season. Now, he’ll likely get a chance in the lineup on Friday night to showcase that at the NHL level.
After Thursday’s loss to Pittsburgh, Artyom Levshunov received some heavy criticism from head coach Jeff Blashill. Blashill said the pairing played poorly and they need more from Levshunov. As a result, there is speculation that Rinzel will take Levshunov’s place in the linuep on Friday to give him a break.
The Blackhawks and Columbus Blue Jackets will do battle at the United Center on Friday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
