On Thursday, Jakub Dobes earned a win in an important game at the Bell Centre.

On Thursday, against the Colorado Avalanche wearing Nordiques jerseys, Montreal struck with a 7-3 win.

Noah Dobson opened the scoring just 56 seconds in, and the crowd was already on its feet. Dobes made 26 saves on 29 shots, good for an .897 save percentage, just under the 90% mark.

Nick Suzuki finished with two goals and an assist, while Kirby Dach and Juraj Slafkovsky each had a goal and an assist. Lane Hutson, Zachary Bolduc, Oliver Kapanen, and Ivan Demidov all recorded two assists. Montreal fired 28 shots, and the Avalanche had 29.

Jakub Dobes reflects on Marco Marciano after strong stretch for the Canadiens

“After earning his second win in as many starts Thursday, Dobes reflected on the hiring of Marco Marciano, with whom he developed an excellent relationship in Laval.”

We know that Dobes has always enjoyed working with Marciano, and he has now spoken highly of him.

“It’s never pleasant to see someone get fired. Éric was someone who truly cared about the organization and its goaltenders. But that’s life. I’m happy about the hiring of Marco. He’ll certainly do a good job, just like he did with me in Laval and with Monty (during the offseason).

Marco made me the goalie I am today. There are things he taught me when I was 20 that I still remember. He’s a very intelligent guy, and I’m looking forward to exchanging perspectives on certain topics. We have a good relationship. I’m excited.

I wouldn’t say he’s a second father, but he’s often on my back, he added with a laugh. He’s a good person. He understands me very well.”

This season, he has posted a 2.96 goals-against average and a .890 save percentage.

In 2024–2025, he played 16 games, posting a 7-4-3 record, a 2.74 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage, and one shutout. All of that explains why there’s plenty of buzz around him, even if he still has the occasional less-than-perfect night.

Since Thursday, the Canadiens hold a 30-17-7 record, and things are looking good in the standings.

That doesn’t mean Marciano changed everything in 24 hours. But the timing is striking, especially with two wins in three nights. Let’s just say that in hockey, things can turn quickly when they decide to turn.

Finally, there’s hope that Dobes continues to play at this level, especially with such important games coming up.
