Mathias Laferrière is joining the Trois-Rivières Lions, and it is excellent news for the organization.

We are talking about a 6-foot-2 power forward who is expected to play an important role with the team.

The 25-year-old Montreal native already has a resume that would make any ECHL prospect blush.

A former 6th-round pick (169th overall) of the St. Louis Blues in 2018, he has logged significant time at the professional level.

His experience includes 229 games in the American Hockey League, primarily with the Springfield Thunderbirds.

He has recorded 78 career points in the AHL, proving he can produce against high-level competition.

The arrival of Mathias Laferrière with the Trois-Rivières Lions

“The Trois-Rivières Lions announce the signing of Mathias Laferrière!

Drafted in the 6th round by the St. Louis Blues in 2018, the 6-foot-2 forward brings valuable experience that will strengthen Ron Choules’ lineup.”

Lions fans in Trois-Rivières finally have a reason to celebrate after a season start marked by inconsistency.

The general feeling is clear: management understood the need for strength and finishing in front of the net.

Laferrière arrives fresh from Slovakia, where he played 30 games this season between Spisska Nova Ves and Zvolen.

He totaled 15 points in Europe, but his physical style of play is well suited for North American rinks.

Ron Choules will be able to rely on a veteran capable of logging heavy minutes on the first line as early as tomorrow.

GM Pascal Rhéaume acted opportunistically by bringing back this local talent who was looking for a way out.

Laferrière never got his chance in the NHL despite signing an entry-level contract with the Blues.

He returns to Quebec with a chip on his shoulder, eager to relaunch his professional career.

His physical maturity will help young prospects navigate the ECHL.

The Lions organization is showing that it wants to keep building on last season’s momentum.
