The Detroit Red Wings organization announced that they sent a forward to the Grand Rapids Griffins immediately after last night’s loss to the Washington Capitals.

The Detroit Red Wings were hosting the Washington Capitals last night at Little Caesars Arena for a must-win matchup for both teams.

Following a great start to the season, the Capitals slightly fell in the standings, currently fourth in the Metropolitan Division.

As for the Wings, the team looked to avoid extending its losing streak to two following a tough 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings, but couldn’t get things done and lost 4-3 in a shootout.

After the game, the Wings organization decided to make some roster moves, notably sending a forward to the AHL.

Red Wings Send Forward To The AHL After 4-3 Loss To Washington

They started by placing Simon Edvinsson on injured reserve and called up two others from the AHL: Sheldon Dries and Justin Holl.

But after the final whistle, the Red Wings announced that they would send Dries back down to the Griffins:

Dries didn’t play a game in the NHL this season, always a healthy scratch when called up from the AHL.

But in 32 games this season with Grand Rapids, the forward tallied 28 points, including 14 goals.

It’ll be interesting to see if he gets another shot in the NHL or spends the rest of the season with the Griffins.

Meanwhile, the Wings are preparing to face the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow afternoon.

The Avs haven’t lost three straight games yet this season, and they lost their last two games. The Wings will need to come out strong if they want to get back on the winning track before the Olympic break.
