William Nylander is ready to return, but the frustration is clear.

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward has missed seven straight games with a groin injury. Speaking this week with Maple Leafs host Ryan Leslie, Nylander admitted the time away has been tough.

For Nylander, the situation has been frustrating, but his focus remains on recovery. The Maple Leafs are losing ground fast this season. They are currently on a six-game losing streak, including getting swept in a five game homestand. They are now placed last in the Atlantic Division.

Nyalnder waited because he wanted to heal fully, get better, and return to the lineup to help the Maple Leafs.

“You know, it’s been – a little bit frustrating,” Nylander said. “But, gotta do what’s best for the body and, you know, don’t wanna miss more time. SO, that’s just my mindset, and knowing that I will get better and I’ll be back playing.”

Nylander skated on the second line during Friday’s practice. He also worked on the first power-play unit, which is a positive sign. Toronto will still monitor his status ahead of Saturday’s game.

Earlier in the week, Nylander missed Thursday’s 5-2 loss to Seattle but is now close to game action. Saturday’s matchup against the Vancouver Canucks could mark his return.

Toronto needs the boost, and Nylander’s offense is needed to get the team back on track for the playoffs. Defensive issues and slow starts have hurt them so far, and injuries have just made the situation even worse. Their scoring chances have not translated into wins recently.

Nylander has been Toronto’s most productive skater this season. He has 17 goals and 31 assists for 48 points in 37 games. His playmaking has driven the offense and helped linemates thrive.

Without him, the Leafs have lacked creativity and puck control. With the season tightening, Nylander’s return could be key for the Leafs.

Toronto faces Vancouver at 7 p.m. EST, hoping his presence helps stop the slide.
