The Philadelphia Flyers brought January to a close in familiar fashion. After falling behind early, they rallied back to tie the game. This time, they didn’t come away empty-handed, getting the game to overtime, but the Los Angeles Kings delivered the dagger in overtime.

Quinton Byfield scored his 10th goal of the season in overtime as the Flyers dropped their fourth straight game and 11th in the last 13 games, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The Kings opened the scoring at 3:09. After a scramble near the net, Adrian Kempe got the puck and put it home to make it 1-0. Just under four minutes later, Kempe had another one for his 20th of the season, as the Flyers were out of position and Kempe fired from the high slot.

Just 42 seconds later, the Kings appeared to take a 3-0 lead as Andrei Kuzmenko put one through the five-hole of Dan Vladar, but an offside challenge disallowed the goal.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 10-6 Los Angeles.

The Flyers got on the board with a power-play goal just 39 seconds into the second period. Trevor Zegras finished off a pretty passing play for his 20th goal of the season to cut the lead to one.

Through two periods, shots were 16-14 Flyers.

Just 25 seconds into the third, the Flyers tied the game. Rasmus Ristolainen‘s shot was deflected by Travis Konecny for his 22nd goal of the season to make it a 2-2 game.

Through 60 minutes, shots were 21-20 Flyers.

The Flyers had a chance to win it in overtime as Konecny got a breakaway and hit the crossbar. About a minute later, Byfield got his chance and scored to win the game for the Kings.

Vladar finished with 18 saves on 21 shots in the loss. Darcy Kuemper made 19 saves on 21 shots in the win.

Kempe had a three-point game for the Kings. Corey Perry had two assists. Konecny had a goal and an assist for the Flyers.

The Flyers are back on the ice on Tuesday night, taking on the Washington Capitals at 7 p.m.
