Since last summer, Kent Hughes has wanted to add a high-end forward to help the Canadiens, but the asking price could be an issue.
Given that few teams are sellers, clubs are demanding astronomical prices to move their players.
We know that for Artemi Panarin, the asking price could include a first-round pick as well as a top prospect.
That said, here are the players other teams are asking from the Canadiens.
Alexander Zharovsky, Michael Hage and Jacob Fowler are in demand
Several sources confirm that the Montreal Canadiens’ rivals are demanding the organization’s next elite goaltender to agree to make a move.
Jacob Fowler, drafted in the 3rd round in 2023, is tearing it up this season with a strong winning record.
“It seems likely that teams are asking for Michael Hage, Jacob Fowler or Alexander Zharovsky in trade discussions. That’s a non-starter for the Canadiens. Let’s see if management can work some magic.”
– Eric Macramalla
The 21-year-old goaltender has already established himself as the future cornerstone in the Canadiens’ crease.
Michael Hage, the offensive gem selected 21st overall in 2024, is also on the radar of every team.
At just 19 years old, the University of Michigan center is dominating the NCAA with production close to a point per game.
Zharovsky, 18, is a second-round pick who is tearing it up in the KHL with an impressive point total.
Kent Hughes is categorically refusing to part with these three players, even to acquire an established star immediately.
Management prefers to test the market with trade assets such as David Reinbacher, the 5th overall pick in the 2023 draft.
It is clear that Hughes does not want to repeat past mistakes by mortgaging the future for a quick payoff.
Finally, Kent Hughes could still surprise us ahead of the trade deadline.
