The NHL insider Elliotte Friedman provided details about potential action on the trade market going down between the Detroit Red Wings and the Winnipeg Jets.
In less than a week, the NHL will be entering the Olympic break, and NHLers will travel to Italy while managers look at their options ahead of the trade deadline.
Indeed, with the March 6th deadline coming fast after the Olympics, many teams seem to be preparing to make moves, including the Detroit Red Wings.
The Wings appear poised to make some acquisitions before the final stretch of the season ahead of the playoffs.
Jets And Wings Linked In Trade Rumors By Elliotte Friedman
On the latest 32 Thoughts episode, the renowned NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Detroit Red Wings and the Winnipeg Jets could complete a trade together soon.
He stated that there could be a match between both organizations, but isn’t sure which players could be involved in the deal.
He mentioned Logan Stanley’s name, while his co-host, Kyle Bukauskas, threw around Luke Schenn’s name:
Stanley, 27, scored 17 points, including eight goals, in 52 games with the Jets this season.
The left-handed defenseman is in the final year of his $1,250,000 AAV contract.
As for Schenn, the 36-year-old right-handed defenseman is also set to hit free agency at the end of the season, when his $2,750,000 AAV deal expires.
In 39 games with the Jets this season, he scored six points, including one goal, with a -8 +/-.
Solely based on the two players’ ages, Stanley would be a better fit than Schenn. The blue line is already filled with experienced players, and Stanley, at six-foot-seven, would make the Wings’ defensive unit one of the biggest in the NHL.
In the end, with Yzerman looking for players with term, it would be surprising to see either Schenn or Stanley in Detroit without a contract extension in place.
