An Original Six franchise has been named as a possible landing spot for Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson as trade talks begin to heat up around the league.
With just a few days to go until the National Hockey League’s Olympic roster freeze goes into effect, there’s a good chance we could see an influx of trades over the next 65-70 hours and the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to get a deal done.
“Obviously, every club in the National Hockey League has untouchables, but management of the Vancouver Canucks is now using the rebuild word, so they have to be open for business, open for just about anything, and that might include finally trading Elias Pettersson.” TSN’s Darren Dreger said.

” A couple years ago, not long before Pettersson signed his eight-year extension with the Canucks, a source close to his camp hinted to me that the Blackhawks were a franchise that interested Pettersson if things didn’t work out in Vancouver. He’d be hitching his wagon to an ascending franchise and speeding up that ascension. Assessing his fit in Chicago today: because of his 200-foot-game, Pettersson would be an ideal center to handle the tougher matchups and take pressure off Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar.” Larkin said about Elias Pettersson being a potential fit in Chicago.
Chicago has a relatively deep prospect pool and draft capital, along with $34 million in available cap space at the moment, so they can more than afford to get a deal done with the Canucks.
Among the pieces the Blackhawks could dangle to get Elias Pettersson include prospects Sacha Boisvert, Oliver Moore or Marek Vanacker, along with any of their future first round picks, as mentioned by Matt Larkin.
Of the teams that are mentioned in Larkin’s article, the Chicago Blackhawks feel like the most logical landing spot for Elias Pettersson, if the Vancouver Canucks do want to trade him and if the Swedish centerman is willing to waive his no-movement clause.
