The Philadelphia Flyers played one of those weird games on Wednesday, where they did not look great as a team, but two players really stood out. It was also one of those unfortunate events where right when the Flyers got healthy, the injury bug said not so fast, my friend.

In the league links, we have plenty of trade rumors. That includes the biggest news surrounding a player that will likely be the next big domino to fall on the trade market. We also have the expected cost of a different trade, a closed-door meeting, and more.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: The Flyers got healthier on Wednesday, as the team announced just before the game that they had activated goaltender Dan Vladar from injured reserve. It was a big return for the Flyers, who desperately missed their No. 1 netminder.

But, right as they got healthy, the injury bug caught back up with the Flyers. Defenseman Rasmus Ristolianen exited the first period of Wednesday’s game with a lower-body injury following his second shift.

In that game, the Flyers got a key contribution from Travis Konecny, who earned his third-career hat trick. Dan Vladar turned into Superman, yet the Flyers still lost 5-3. So, what happened? Well, the Flyers’ defense faltered.

NHL rumors & news

Let’s start with arguably the biggest news from Wednesday.

Artemi Panarin is not playing for the Rangers tonight vs NYI for roster reasons

Is not expected to play before the Olympic freeze, assuming nothing occurs before then

Artemi Panarin has been held out of the New York Rangers lineup for roster management reasons and won’t return to play until a trade occurs. This likely means he has played his last game as a Ranger.

To me, this likely signals that things have progressed on the trade front to the point where holding him out seems best.

As to where he will go, that remains unclear. However, we do have an unlikely destination.

San Jose Hockey Now: San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng uncovered quite the bomb. The rising San Jose Sharks have inquired about Artemi Panarin, and Peng reported that Panarin would be willing to sign an extension with the Sharks. Wow.

Forever Blueshirts: Panarin is obviously the most likely Ranger to be traded. But what about the rest? Pat Pickens breaks down the five Rangers most likely to be traded next, following the Carson Soucy trade.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Jason Robertson could very well be on the trade market. The Pittsburgh Penguins could be the perfect fit. What would it cost to get RoBo to the Steel City? Further, Dan Kingerski weighs whether or not it’s a good idea to make a move.

Toronto Hockey Now: Things might have gone from bad to worse in Toronto. The Maple Leafs held a closed-door meeting between leaders and head coach Craig Berube as the team continues to spiral. Dave Litman has the latest in Toronto.
