Marco Kasper scored on the first shift of the game, and it would be the only goal the Detroit Red Wings would need, as they blanked the Colorado Avalanche 2-0 on Monday.

The win ended a three-game (0-2-1) skid for the Red Wings and was Detroit’s first victory at Colorado in nearly a decade. On February 27, 2016, the Red Wings downed the Avalanche 5-3, playing outdoors at Coors Field in the NHL Stadium Series.

The last win by the Red Wings at Ball Arena was also the last time Detroit posted a shutout victory over the Avalanche. On February 15, 2015, Petr Mrazek made 28 saves as the Red Wings blanked the Avs 3-0.

Tonight, the Red Wings looked like a team that can win in the playoffs — not merely make it there.

Excellent goaltending. Defense consistently above pucks. Forwards well-positioned in their own zone against some of the most talented players in the world. @NHLMedia

Monday, John Gibson turned aside 21 shots for his third shutout of the season and 27th of his NHL career.

Lucas Raymond scored his 19th goal of the year into an empty Colorado net to seal the victory. Raymond finished the night with a goal and an assist. Captain Dylan Larkin assisted on both Detroit goals.

Red Wings Takeaways

Detroit hasn’t lost back-to-back games in regulation time since a three-game skid from Nov. 24-28. The Red Wings are the only NHL team that hasn’t lost consecutive games in regulation over that period of time . . . Defenseman Travis Hamonic was back in the lineup after being a healthy scratch for Saturday’s 5-0 loss to the Avalanche . . . Gibson has allowed three goals or fewer in 13 of his past 14 starts.

Key Moment

Kasper opened the score just 33 seconds after the opening faceoff. That’s the fastest goal the Wings have scored from the start of a game this season.

Key Stat

Gibson is 11-4 on the road this season. His .938 save percentage on the road is the best in the NHL.
