The Avs let in a goal just 33 seconds in and spent the next 59 minutes chasing. They couldn’t tie it, and a late empty netter sealed the first Red Wings win at Ball Arena since 2015 when they shutout the Avs 3-0.

Barry Trotz: Barry Trotz is resigning from his post as Predators GM. He’s not joining another team or going back to coaching. He’s retiring. And the news came completely out of nowhere on Monday morning.

Trotz will remain as GM through the trade deadline and will continue his role until the Preds find his replacement. The search has already begun.

Detroit Hockey Now: It’s been 10 years since the Red Wings last won a game in Denver. It wasn’t at Ball Arena, it was at Coors Field in the outdoor Stadium Series game.

Alex Tanguay played his final game as a member of the Avalanche that night. He’s now an assistant coach for the Wings.

Florida Hockey Now: Alex Lyon was the hero for the Sabres. And the Panthers’ playoff hopes continue to dwindle. With victories for both Toronto and Ottawa, the Panthers are now dead last in the Atlantic Division.
