Seth Jarvis speaks to the media after a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators
Well, Seth, we spoke after the first period. You told me the things you thought that would need to happen from there, the final two periods. What did you see? Yeah, I mean, they still got their chances, but that’s going to happen in the NHL. I thought we did a good job just kind of when they’re getting momentum, kind of flipping on them, um. I take advantage of our opportunities and it was a big win for us. Can you speak to how big Jordan has been just taking draws on the power play, creating those opportunities for you guys to have set plays and things like that? Yeah, he’s been incredible. That’s a big reason I think why our power play is doing as well as it has been, starting with the puck and like you said, letting us run our plays and give us a chance to kind of score right away, which again we did tonight. Do you think defensemen maybe underestimate your speed off the rush since a lot of times you’re able to blow by guys and get that little extra. I don’t know, maybe I look fat out there or something and they think I’m a little slow, but the speed’s still in there somewhere, and yeah, it’s nice when you get those opportunities to kind of catch them flat-footed. And yeah, kind of throw it back a little bit. Your 2nd goal came right after a big save by Bastian Batterson when he cut to the hash marks. It was 8 seconds later you scored. Interesting how sometimes those plays happen where the other end is the goal. Yeah, I mean, again, you came up huge, plays like that. I mean, they’re kind of all in on that rush, so to be able to kind of flip it on them. And score and take advantage is huge. You don’t get a lot of rush opportunities in the NHL, so when you can capitalize, it’s massive. You had some dramatic wins lately. Big comeback, overtime win, 3rd period tonight. Where’s that coming from? Just the leadership in our room, I think being able to be in tough games. I think we went through a stretch early on where we’re blowing leads and struggling a little bit. So to be able to grind these out. Be comfortable in those tight games and trust our process and know that we’ll get our chances to score has been huge. With the Olympics on deck, is that in the back of your mind at all, like, hey, showing these guys like, hey, I’m pretty good out here too. I think I blew that opportunity already. I think I think that part’s done. Um, I mean, you never know, I’m just trying to play the best hockey I can for the Hurricanes, and whether that results in me somehow ending up in the Olympics, that’d be cool, but that’s definitely not my focus. I’m focused on the guys in here, the team in here, and. Winning however we can. What’s been working for your line the last few games? I mean, everyone, I think, has been contributing in different ways. I think the way Sveci plays with his strength and his power creates a lot of loose pucks for me and Fishy kind of swoop in and then from there everyone on our line is talented. We can take advantage. Make plays. So I think we get a little bit of open ice. Being able to take advantage has been big for us right now. How important is this next game on Thursday to get a win going into 3 weeks off? It’s huge. I mean, you don’t want to sit on a loss for 3 weeks or sit on a bad game. So just come in with the mindset of just keep this thing rolling, grind one more out, and then leave it all on the ice because you’ve got 3 weeks to recoup. And your second silly, it looked like you were making a phone call. Who were you calling? I wasn’t calling anybody. Uh, I don’t, I don’t know what happened. I blacked out a little bit there. Fetch she was mad. I blew right by him, so I gotta make it up to him. Thanks sir.
