The Edmonton Oilers have not been playing up to par of late, as they have lost two games in a row following a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
Playing at home and in front of over 18,000 fans, the Oilers struggled to find offense and contain Toronto’s attack.

The Oilers actually won the possession battle, launching 36 shots on goal to only 27 by the visiting Maple Leafs, but Toronto took advantage of Edmonton’s faulty defense.
That surely did not sit well with Oilers forward Kasperi Kapanen.

“We can’t be letting in five, six, seven, goals per game. It’s just it’s too much. It’s just not the right way to win,” Kapanen, a former Maple Leaf, said following the loss, via Mark Spector of Sportsnet.
“I feel like we’re just always trailing by two, three goals. And they’ve scored four or five.”

The Oilers’ collapse against Toronto came on the heels of their 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild at home on Saturday.
After a goalless first period, the Maple Leafs found the back of the net twice in the second frame, with the Oilers scoring in between those goals. Kapanen tied the score at 2 five minutes into the third before the wheels fell off for the Oilers, who committed back-to-back penalties and surrendered two power-play goals and an empty-netter.
Edmonton, which dropped to 28-21-8 and is tied with Vegas Golden Knights atop the Pacific Division, will look to turn things around in Wednesday’s 10 p.m. ET meeting with the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta.
