Nashville Predators GM stepping down

  • February 4, 2026

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The general manager for the Nashville Predators is stepping down.

Barry Trotz is retiring as the team’s GM after nearly three years on the job. Trotz will reportedly remain the GM until the team’s leadership decides who his successor will be.

The decision was made official during a press conference with the Predators owner, Bill Haslam, and Ceo Sean Henry on Monday.

The news shocked the hockey world, including Predators head coach Andrew Brunette.

“Yeah, I guess, I’m as surprised as everybody else,” Brunette admitted on Monday. “I wasn’t expecting that today.”

Trotz took over as Nashville’s GM in February 2023. The team made the playoffs the next season, but heavy spending since then led to one of the worst seasons in the organization’s history.

Missed last year. Fighting to stay in the hunt this season.
Curious how this news effects what the team does the rest of the way this season.

His decision to retire comes as the Predators are very much in the playoff mix, at 25-23, just past the midway point of the season. Trotz said on Monday that once the team hires another GM, he will remain involved with the organization in an “advisory role.”

Trotz’s short time as a general manager followed what many consider to be a Hall of Fame coaching career, 15 years of which were spent at the helm of the Predators.
