A former Vancouver Canucks forward has signed a multi-year contract extension to remain overseas in Europe, putting an end to a possible North American return for now.

After leaving North America for the second time in his professional hockey career back in 2023, former Vancouver Canucks forward Jayce Hawryluk has enjoyed some success in Europe, making stops in Czechia, Slovakia and Switzerland.

“I’ve known Jayce since his junior days and I’m convinced that his skills and robust playing style will enable him to play a key role in our team. He is versatile, can also play on the wing and quickly adapts to new systems. We are delighted that this signing has come to fruition.” EHC Olten Sports Director Thomas Roost said in September.

Hawryluk’s move to EHC Olten has proven to be a smart one as he’s registered an impressive 47 points (13 goals, 34 assists), 70 penalty minutes and is a plus-13 in 36 games.

Note: the following has been translated from German

“EHC Olten can continue to count on Jayce Hawryluk ‘s services for the next two seasons : The Canadian forward, with 98 NHL games under his belt, has extended his expiring contract until 2028. Hawryluk joined EHC Olten this season and established himself as one of the league’s top point scorers during the regular season. With his vision and passing skills, the 30-year-old consistently creates space for his teammates, as evidenced by his 34 assists in 36 games. He also has 13 goals so far and an intense playing style that adds more firepower to the team.” the club said in a press release.

Hawryluk’s strong season has put EHC Olten in a strong position to qualify for the Swiss League’s Promotion Playoffs, which if they win, they’ll have an opportunity to return to the National League – Switzerland’s top division – for the first time since the early 1990s, something that would bring a big economic boost to the town of roughly 18,000 people.
