After seven seasons, Panarin, the franchise’s all-time leader in points per game, is on the move, officially being traded to the Los Angeles Kings for prospect Liam Greentree and a conditional third-round pick. He ends his Rangers career with over 600 points over seven seasons, as New York pivots toward a roster “retool” under general manager Chris Drury.
The Breadman served as the high-octane engine of the Rangers’ offense from the moment he arrived in 2019, leading the team in scoring during every single season of his tenure. His name is now etched throughout the Blueshirts’ record books; he holds the franchise mark for the longest season-opening point streak and became the fastest Ranger ever to reach the 400-point milestone, eclipsing legendary figures like Mark Messier and Brian Leetch.
Now, he joins Los Angeles, which defeated the Rangers in the 2014 Stanley Cup. Here are the complete details of the Panarin trade and exactly what the Kings are giving up to land the superstar winger.

Artemi Panarin trade details
Kings receive:Â Artemi Panarin
Rangers receive:Â Liam Greentree, conditional third-round pick
On Wednesday, just minutes before the NHL’s Olympic roster freeze, the Kings acquired Panarin from the Rangers, sending Greentree — the top prospect for the Kings not currently in the NHL — and a conditional third-round pick the other way to New York. Greentree, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound power winger, was selected 26th overall by the Kings in the 2024 NHL Draft and has spent the 2025-26 season continuing his development in the OHL.
This comes after the Rangers have sidelined Panarin for the past few games for “roster management.” With the team currently sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and Panarin in the final year of his contract, the front office is opting to recoup assets rather than risk losing him for nothing in free agency.

Per reports, the Kings were the only destination that Panarin wanted to go to. Armed with a full no-movement clause (NMC), the 34-year-old winger held total control over the process, effectively narrowing the trade market to a field of one. While heavy hitters like the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes reportedly made aggressive offers, Panarin refused to greenlight any deal that didn’t land him in Los Angeles with an extension already in place.
On the other side, Los Angeles acquires the perennial superstar to pair with Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiala, Quinton Byfield and co. The Kings are right outside of the playoff picture as it stands with 60 points.

Artemi Panarin contract
After being traded to Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, Panarin signed a short-term extension for two years with an $11 million AAV. Reports indicated that the Kings were the only team where Panarin wanted to go and signed an extension shortly after the move.

The deal effectively secures Panarin in Hollywood through the 2027-28 season, carrying him to age 36. By opting for a higher annual salary over the long-term, $50 million “home run” he was reportedly seeking, Panarin granted the Kings the flexibility they needed to pull the trigger on the move just minutes before the 3 p.m. ET Olympic roster freeze.
Panarin is currently in the final year of the massive seven-year, $81.5 million contract he signed with the Rangers back in July 2019. The top free agent on the market at the time signed with New York, passing over larger offers from the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders.
Panarin has a full no-move clause, meaning he had to approve the trade New York makes.

Throughout his decorated career, Panarin has consistently been recognized as one of the league’s elite talents, beginning with his 2015-16 campaign, where he won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie. His impact on Broadway was immediate, earning him a place as a Hart Memorial Trophy finalist in 2019-20 after a 95-point debut season with the Rangers, where he ultimately finished third in MVP voting.
Panarin has also been a frequent fixture on the NHL Post-Season All-Star Teams, earning First Team honors twice (2020, 2024) and Second Team honors twice (2017, 2022). Even in years where he wasn’t a finalist, his presence in the MVP conversation remained constant, notably in 2023-24 when his career-high 120-point season saw him finish in the top five of Hart Trophy voting.
Since signing as a free agent in 2019, Panarin has been the offensive heartbeat of the Rangers. He famously led the team in scoring in every single season he played on Broadway. His efficiency is unmatched in franchise history: he currently ranks #1 all-time in Points Per Game (1.26) for the Rangers, sitting ahead of legendary names like Mark Messier and Jean Ratelle.
