Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: Noise began to grow surrounding Rick Tocchet’s answer to a question about Matvei Michkov on Sunday. Elliotte Friedman called for the “Briere signal” to help clear the air. In my opinion, that was absolutely the right idea.
So, Danny Briere answered the signal and addressed the media to clear the air about the comments. Here is what Briere had to say.
Briere made those comments ahead of the Flyers’ game vs. the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. Owen Tippett and Dan Vladar each played phenomenal games, as did Michkov, and personally, I really liked what I saw from Nikita Grebenkin. But it was Jamie Drysdale’s late-game power-play goal that stole the show in their 4-2 win against the Capitals.
NHL rumors & news
Today is the mini trade deadline. The Olympic roster freeze goes into effect today at 3:00 p.m. EST. Here is what you need to know.

That said, a mini trade deadline may occur, with teams looking to move on some non-Olympic players. This could reflect the flurry of trades right before the holiday freeze, which saw Mason Marchment and Philip Danault traded. As NHL trade rumors continue to swirl, it seems like nothing will happen until Artemi Panarin gets traded.
Forever Blueshirts: So, what’s taking so long? Atremi Panarin is the hottest name on the trade market, but nothing has been enticing enough for the Rangers to make the trade. Time is on the Rangers’ side. Jim Cerny writes the latest on the top trade target.
TSN: As Panarin watch continues, it can seem a bit confusing why no team has yet to pull the trigger. One reason could be his steep price tag for his upcoming extension, which Panarin wants when a trade occurs. Could Panarin’s pricey extension be scaring teams away?
Florida Hockey Now: Sam Bennett has replaced Anthony Cirelli, who is injured, on the Canadian Olympic roster. Bennett was initially one of the biggest snubs from the roster; now he has his spot.
While I do think he needs the break, you have to wonder whether Travis Konecny’s season warranted more consideration there. The numbers this season sure indicate he is having the better season.
San Jose Hockey Now: Macklin Celebrini waived off what seemed like a drawn penalty, indicating he did not take a high stick. It was a rather strange move by the young star. Celebrini explained why he did not want to take the penalty.
