Calgary Flames winger Jonathan Huberdeau will miss the rest of the season due to a hip injury.

He will undergo hip refacing surgery in March and is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2026-27 season.

“After extensive evaluation, this was determined to be the best course of action for Jonathan’s long-term health and performance,” said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy.

“While it is difficult to lose a player of his calibre, our priority is ensuring he is fully healthy moving forward. Huberdeau has been managing hip-related symptoms throughout the season. The decision to proceed with surgery was made in collaboration with Jonathan, his representative, our medical staff, and specialists to support his long-term well being.”

Huberdeau played 15:39 in Wednesday’s 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers, registering one goal and three shots on net.

The 32-year-old finishes the 2025-26 campaign with 10 goals and 25 points in 50 games.

The Saint-Jerome, Que., native was in his fourth campaign with the Flames, where he has tallied 65 goals and 129 assists for 194 points over 291 games.

Huberdeau was acquired from the Florida Panthers as part of a package that sent forward Matthew Tkachuk to the Sunshine State. The Flames also acquired defenceman Mackenzie Weegar, forward Cole Schwindt and a 2025 first-round pick, which they used to select centre Cullen Potter.

He is in the third season of an eight-year, $84 million ($10.5M AAV) extension he signed with the Flames in August 2022 that is set to expire following the 2030-31 season.

The Panthers selected Huberdeau, a two time NHL All-Star, third overall in the 2011 NHL Draft. Over his 14-year career, he has scored 263 goals and 807 points in 962 games. His best season came in 2021-22, his final year in Florida, when he scored 30 goals and finished tied for second in the NHL in points with 115.

Huberdeau was awarded the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2012-13.
