The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly set a very high asking price for pending unrestricted free agent centerman Teddy Blueger ahead of the trade deadline.
With the National Hockey League’s trade deadline right around the corner, we’re about to enter the busiest time of the 2025-26 season, but with a roster freeze currently in effect until the conclusion of the 2026 Winter Olympics, the Vancouver Canucks are going to have to wait a bit before making their next move.
As the club transitions into a rebuild, the priority for Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford is to get younger, whether that be through landing prospects or draft picks and it looks like the club is seeking a high return for former Stanley Cup champion Teddy Blueger.

According to Thomas Drance of The Athletic, the Vancouver Canucks believe that they can get a high return for Teddy Blueger due to how thin the rental center market is this season around the league.
“Given how Blueger has performed for Vancouver, and given the significant premium price that teams around the NHL are demanding for centres, the Canucks have set a relatively high price point for Blueger in trade talks.” Drance said.
He added, “Based on what I’m hearing about Blueger’s market value, Vancouver is looking for at least a third-round pick as it considers selling Blueger before the trade deadline, and it may actually take somewhat more than that for a team to actually land him ahead of deadline day.”
When healthy, Teddy Blueger has been very reliable for the Canucks, whether he’s playing his usual bottom-six role or if he’s thrusted into the top-six due to injury issues with the team and for that reason alone – his versatility – he would be a solid fit for any contending team.
A return to the Vegas Golden Knights can’t be ruled out at this point as they look to add some more depth ahead of the trade deadline and after making a big splash last month by acquiring Rasmus Andersson from the Calgary Flames, it’s clear that they’re all-in as they chase their second Stanley Cup in franchise history.
