DULUTH, Minn. — Zam Plante scored with 6.2 seconds left in overtime to give Minnesota Duluth a 3-2 win in the series finale — the Bulldogs’ first win over UND in AmsOil Arena in more than six years.
First star: Zam Plante, Minnesota Duluth, 2 goals.
Second star: Ellis Rickwood, UND, goal.
Third star: Ethan Dahlmeir, Minnesota Duluth, 22 saves.
No scoring.
Minnesota Duluth 1, UND 0 — Hunter Anderson 3 (Daniel Shlaine) 3:06. Anderson picks up a loose puck in the neutral zone and gets behind UND defenseman Abram Wiebe, starting a 2-on-1. Anderson, skating up the left side, takes the shot himself and puts it off the post and in for his third goal of the season.
Minnesota Duluth 2, UND 0 — Zam Plante 12 (Jayson Shaugabay, Ty Hanson) 17:30 (pp). Minnesota Duluth’s top-ranked power play gets on the board on its fourth chance of the night. Hanson launches a point shot that gets blocked in front, but Shaugabay finds it in traffic and feeds Zam, who is all alone in the right circle. Zam has the whole net to finish off his 12th goal of the season.
Minnesota Duluth 2, UND 1 — Ellis Rickwood 7 (Mac Swanson, Abram Wiebe) 10:25 (sh). UND finally breaks through shorthanded. Wiebe makes a terrific stretch pass to Swanson, starting a 2-on-1 rush. Swanson makes a saucer pass through a Minnesota Duluth defender and Rickwood one-times it past Bulldog goalie Ethan Dahlmeir.
Minnesota Duluth 2, UND 2 — Jack Kernan (Ben Strinden, Jake Livanavage) 18:29 (ex). UND pulls goalie Jan Špunar for the extra attacker and ties it. Livanavage takes the puck from Keaton Verhoeff high in the zone and feeds Strinden for a one-timer in the left circle. Dahlmeir stops it, but Kernan buries the rebound. It’s the second time this season UND has rallied from a two-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes of the third against Minnesota Duluth.
Minnesota Duluth 3, UND 2 — Zam Plante 12 (Grayden Siepmann) 4:53. As overtime is near an end, Siepmann enters the zone and leaves a pass for Zam on the left side. UND gets mixed up in cover and Zam gets a shooting lane. He rockets one past Špunar to give the Bulldogs their second overtime win against UND this season.
