Former Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has completely cut ties with Montreal media

Marc Bergevin has truly turned the page on Montreal.

The former Canadiens general manager reportedly promised a former colleague that he would never again give an interview to a Montreal media outlet.

Despite ten years at the helm and a Stanley Cup Final appearance, radio silence has persisted since his dismissal.

Last night on 98.5 Sports, Mario Langlois dropped a major piece of news. The former boss has no intention of reversing his decision, now that he works in Buffalo.

It’s quite fascinating to see someone who was once so accessible shut himself off like this. The Sabres even recently blocked local journalists, citing a busy schedule.

Yet Bergevin spoke with local Michigan media the very next day. We can agree that the message sent to Montreal fans is rather clear and direct.

Tony Marinaro didn’t fail to add his two cents regarding the current management.

According to him, the Canadiens’ leadership carefully selects its preferred media faces.

A widening gap between the Canadiens and the 98.5 airwaves

Let’s be honest, the situation is, to say the least, peculiar with the official broadcaster. Kent Hughes reportedly hasn’t given an interview to Mario Langlois in nearly three years.

This dynamic raises questions about the organization’s transparency toward its fans. The contrast with the era when the general manager was everywhere is striking today.

In Bergevin’s case, the break seems definitive and irreversible. He clearly prefers to focus on his role as assistant general manager, far from the Montreal pressure.

We won’t see him shopping around for a reconciliation with local sports airwaves.

The Montreal chapter is truly closed for the man in the colorful suits.
