NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman weighs in on a center, Vincent Trocheck of the New York Rangers, heading to the Detroit Red Wings.

With news of a retool in New York, bigger pieces are bound to fall. This is an opportune time for the Detroit Red Wings general manager, Steve Yzerman, who could benefit from a trade with the Rangers.

Failing to make a deal with Artemi Panarin, another top-six center, is the next trade target of the Red Wings, Vincent Trocheck.

The Kings attempted to bring Trocheck to Los Angeles with Artemi Panarin, but he prefers to remain in the Eastern Conference.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman named the Red Wings as the team that is a suitor for the 32-year-old center. Instead of this being just a rumor, this is the Red Wings restating their interest after failing to sign him before he became a Blueshirt on Broadway.

Why the Detroit Red Wings are the perfect landing spot for Vincent Trocheck

The Red Wings would be a perfect landing spot for the gritty second-line center, who’d line up behind Dylan Larkin. His arrival in Detroit would add to the depth in the top six.

Digging into the prospect pipeline and numerous draft assets, the Red Wings could trade for the gritty forward who is what they need, a player with term left on his deal, 3 years with a $5.625 million average annual value.

He could fit under the Red Wings’ generous cap space, as Yzerman has managed it meticulously throughout his tenure as GM.

While the Rangers need high-end prospects, this deal could help both teams achieve their goals. Trocheck could help push for the playoffs, and the Rangers get younger.

Though one obstacle for the Red Wings to overcome will be his 12-team no-trade list, giving him a choice of where he goes. It could mean that Hockeytown is a no-go for Trocheck.
