Local leaders and community members are highlighting Black History Month in Buffalo.
Mayor Sean Ryan helped start the city’s annual celebration Saturday at the Broadway Market.
The Broadway Market is set to hold a weekly celebration every Saturday for the rest of this month.
It will feature live music and pop-up shops with black entrepreneurs.
Ryan shared his thoughts on why he feels events like these are important for the Buffalo community.
“Black Americans have been here since the start of Buffalo,” Ryan said. “They played a part in the growth of Buffalo. So, Black history and Buffalo history are the same thing.”Â
