Team Canada got on the ice for its first practice at Milano Cortina 2026 as they prepare for their tournament opener on Feb. 12 against Czechia.

Bruiser Tom Wilson took the first line rushes on the right wing beside Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini.

In a small surprise, Nova Scotia natives Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon did not practise on the same line.

The Colorado Avalanche star centred a line between Brad Marchand and Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki, while Crosby skated between a pair of Vegas Golden Knights, Mark Stone and Mitch Marner.

Sam Reinhart, Brandon Hagel, and Bo Horvat rounded out the fourth line, while Seth Jarvis and Sam Bennett skated as extra forwards.

Crosby named captain

Hockey Canada announced earlier on Sunday that Crosby would serve as captain.

McDavid and Makar will serve as alternates.

Crosby previously captained Canada to gold at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He infamously scored the Golden Goal over the United States in overtime at the 2010 Games in Vancouver to deliver Canada the gold medal.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, and it is an honour to be named captain of Canada’s men’s hockey team, which has so many great players and leaders,” Crosby said in a statement. “Connor and Cale, along with our entire group, provide incredible leadership, and I am happy to represent Canada together on the same team. We are all proud to wear the Maple Leaf and compete with Team Canada in Milan.”
