The Canadiens headed into the Olympic break in the NHL schedule sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division with a 32-17-8 record. They were 15 points ahead of their pace from last season, when they had a 26-26-5 record after 57 games and went on to earn the second wild-card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

According to Hockey-Reference.com, the Canadiens’ odds of making the playoffs for a second straight season are 89.9 per cent.

If the Habs — the youngest team in the NHL — do get into the playoffs, are they good enough to win a series or two after getting eliminated by the Washington Capitals during the first round last season?
