A new trade proposal would see Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin trade veteran forward Evander Kane to one of the top Stanley Cup contenders.

With the National Hockey League’s 2025-26 season currently on pause for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, teams won’t be able to complete any trades until after 8:59 pm PT on Sunday, February 22nd, but rumors are continuing to heat up.

Back in the fall after nose diving in the NHL standings and realizing that they have a very low chance of making it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks made a big decision with Evander Kane and the rest of their pending unrestricted free agents, making them available on the trade market leading up to the March 6th deadline.

“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said.

Trade proposal sends Vancouver Canucks’ Evander Kane to top Stanley Cup contender

“Evander Kane’s agent Dan Milstein has been given permission to help facilitate a trade for his client.” Rick Dhaliwal said on X.

Over the last month, three teams with Stanley Cup hopes have been linked to Evander Kane – the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings, with the Canucks hoping to get a mid-round pick in return and are willing to retain upwards of 50 percent of his remaining salary.

“When looking for a specific spot in the Avalanche’s lineup for Kane, he could be a nice pickup for their third line with Jack Drury and Joel Kiviranta. Kane would also give the Avalanche another option to work with on their second power play unit if acquired.” DeRosa shared.

The Colorado Avalanche don’t have a ton of cap space to work with at the moment, especially if they wanted to make another move in addition to hypothetically acquiring Evander Kane, so retaining money, whether it’s 25 or 50 percent, would almost certainly up the return Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin could get for the veteran forward.
