It’s the second Monday of February, which means a Beanpot champion will be crowned today. No. 14 Boston College and Boston University will meet in the championship game tonight at 7 p.m. ET in the 300th edition of the Battle of Commonwealth Ave.
But first, Harvard and Northeastern will clash in the third-place game at 4:30 p.m. ET. The Crimson and the Huskies both look to get back in the win column after each team lost in the Beanpot first round and in their Friday night conference games.
Harvard was outclassed in its first Beanpot game, losing 5-1 to No. 11 Boston College, as the Eagles’ high-powered offense proved too much for the Crimson to handle. Harvard returned to action on Friday night when it hosted No. 14 Dartmouth in an ECAC matchup. Despite a strong third-period push, the Crimson couldn’t overcome a late two-goal deficit, dropping their ninth straight game against a ranked opponent.
The Huskies looked great last Monday against Boston U., powered by a 36-save performance by Lawton Zacher, but the Terriers outlasted Northeastern, taking the shootout win to advance to the Beanpot final. Northeastern dropped another close game on Friday night, a 2-0 loss to No. 12 UConn at home.
Harvard and Northeastern met way back in October in a preseason exhibition game, which the Crimson won, 4-2. This will be the 36th meeting all-time between the Crimson and the Huskies — Northeastern leads the head-to-head series, 21-13-1.
