We have an update on the captain of our Canadian women’s team, Marie-Philip Poulin, following what happened earlier today.
After some anxious moments following her sudden exit to the locker room, fans of Team Canada can start breathing a little easier.
The latest information coming out of Milan suggests that the injury sustained by captain Marie-Philip Poulin may be less serious than the images initially led us to believe.
Radio-Canada journalist Christine Roger shared an observation that is very reassuring for the rest of the tournament.
She spotted the famous No. 29 after the game, at a time when she was no longer wearing her hockey equipment.
The most important detail?
Poulin appeared to be walking “with ease” and, most importantly, she was not using crutches or any other form of walking assistance.
“I caught a glimpse of MP Poulin without her equipment. She was far away, but she still seemed to be walking comfortably. No crutches or anything like that.”

Reassuring news regarding Marie-Philip Poulin and an initial verdict that is quite optimal
Let’s be honest, this is the best-case scenario under the circumstances.
Karine Hains relayed this information as well, noting that the captain was walking “comfortably,” even though the observation was made from a certain distance.
Let’s tell it like it is: seeing an athlete leave the ice in pain after lower-body contact often brings up catastrophic, season-ending scenarios.
Seeing her move under her own power just minutes later suggests that it was more scare than harm.
While we still need to wait for official medical confirmation regarding her status for the next game, this news has already lowered the tension by several notches within the Canadian camp.
However, Canada went on to secure a convincing 5–1 victory.
“Captain Clutch” may not have said her last word at these Olympic Games.
