The Vancouver Canucks & GM Patrik Allvin have appeared to strike gold once again as one of their forward prospects is lighting up the Ontario Hockey League this year.

Braeden Cootes is without a doubt Vancouver’s top prospect at the moment, with the club likely to add a top-three pick to the fold in the months ahead which will be a big boost, however there are several others than fans should be keeping their eyes on, especially in the Ontario Hockey League.

Patterson’s game has grown quite a lot, on both sides of the puck, since he was drafted by the Canucks and after requesting a trade prior to the 2025-26 season, the Burlington, Ontario native landed with the Niagara Ice Dogs, a move that has done him wonders.

On Monday night, the Ice Dogs hosted the Guelph Storm and in the third period, Riley Patterson picked up an overtime goal to give him a new career-high in points with 63, a little over a month after he was named OHL Player of the Month for December.

“In just 44 games, Riley Patterson has matched his previous career high in goals (29) and has officially made a new high in points (63).

You gotta love it. #Canucks” Dave Hall of Canucks Army shared on X.

Just as training camp got underway in September, the Canucks signed Pattersson to a three-year, entry-level contract after impressing the front office and coaching staff during rookie camp and if he continues his strong play for the remainder of the regular season and into the playoffs, it wouldn’t shock anyone if he made the jump to professional hockey in the fall.
