It’s almost time for one of the most exciting events in hockey, the Winter Olympics, and Vancouver Canucks head coach Adam Foote believes it could be the best thing for Elias Pettersson who is representing Team Sweden, to see how far he could take his game.

“The 2026 Winter Olympics are a big opportunity for Elias Pettersson to get his game back on track and being surrounded by other stars in a positive environment could do him wonders, especially if the Swedes are able to make push for the gold medal game, which is exactly two weeks away.”-Jaxon

All eyes will be on Elias Pettersson for Team Sweden.

Canucks Army posted the Foote quote on X, who believes this will be a good litmus test for Pettersson. He will be playing on one of the better teams in the tournament, with better teammates than he normally has in Vancouver. It’s his best opportunity to regain some confidence and bring it back to the NHL once the two weeks have concluded.

It’ll be a good marker for Petey and good experience to get to play at that pace. I think there is another pace he can play and, you know he’s aware of it…I think he knows he’s got something more to offer, I really do

With a lot of trade rumours surrounding Pettersson as well, it would be beneficial for the Canucks if Pettersson has a solid tournament, because it’ll raise his stock and increase the return for the Canucks. And if they keep him, then they’ll be getting a better version of Pettersson anyway. Two weeks can alter the course of Pettersson’s career if he performs well.
