A former top-ten pick has emerged as a strong trade target for Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks to consider leading up to the deadline on Friday, March 6th.

The Vancouver Canucks are in a bit of a transition period and the next few weeks are going to be quite interesting for the club as they look to make some moves at the trade deadline that will set them up well for the future.

“We are transitioning into a rebuild here, acquiring younger players through the draft. Obviously, the draft is really important for us. Since Jim and I got [here] three years ago, we’ve definitely always emphasized on getting younger.” General Manager Patrik Allvin said last month.

Adding more depth down the middle is going to be key for this rebuild to become successful for the Vancouver Canucks and it looks like there’s an intriguing option for Patrik Allvin to consider.

Kasper, the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, likely would have been part of the return in a Quinn Hughes trade between the Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings, who were one of the top teams involved, and if Patrik Allvin were to circle back on a deal highlighted by someone else, like Conor Garland for example, perhaps they could try to land the Austrian centerman.

“Kasper is a heavy, gritty forward with excellent skating ability and a high motor. He isn’t the most creative or dynamic playmaker, but his physical gifts, dogged puck pursuit, and advanced defensive conscience are very attractive.” Dayal and Drance said.

The Innsbruck, Austria native is currently in his second full season in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings where he has struggled a little bit, registering 13 points (six goals, seven assists), 29 penalty minutes and is a minus-11 in 57 games.

With the Red Wings looking to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2016, they’re going to be aggressive leading up to the trade deadline and it’ll be the perfect time for Patrik Allvin to land a young player like Marco Kasper.
