An ex-first round pick has been named as an idea center target for the Vancouver Canucks leading up to the trade deadline as they look to make their roster younger.

General Manager Patrik Allvin will have ample time to try and find suitable forward options, preferably in their early 20s, for his group as they transition into a full-on rebuild and this search could drag into the offseason or training camp in September.

Leading up to the Olympic break, the Nashville Predators have played their way into the playoff picture in the Western Conference, sitting four points back of the Anaheim Ducks for the second wild card spot.

With outgoing General Manager Barry Trotz spending quite a lot of money in the summer of 2024 to bring in Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, along with locking up goaltender Juuse Saros to an eight-year extension, the club can’t avoid missing the playoffs two seasons in a row and if they opt to be buyers ahead of the deadline, perhaps the Vancouver Canucks could have some pieces they may like.

“Svechkov is an effective play driver because of his clever passes that create zone exits and entries. He’s an above-average skater (75th percentile for speed bursts over 20 miles per hour), makes quick decisions with the puck to create chances, and plays a mature defensive game.” Drance and Dayal said.

They added, “We’re bullish on his long-term upside as a valuable bottom-six centre, with potential 3C upside.”

In 49 games this season, the Tolyatti, Russia native has put up nine points (two goals, seven assists), 14 penalty minutes and is a minus-eight while averaging 12:02 of ice time per night.

Among those on the Vancouver Canucks that could be of interest to the Nashville Predators amid their playoff push include forwards Teddy Blueger, Evander Kane and David Kampf, all of whom, along with a maybe a mid-round pick involved, could fetch the club Fedor Svechkov.
