NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman confirms what Detroit Red Wings fans were hopeful for in a potential trade involving Vincent Trocheck.
The Detroit Red Wings are still on the hunt for a top-six upgrade. Vince Trocheck is still on the sinking ship that is the New York Rangers but could be a huge help in the Red Wings’ system as they vie for a playoff spot after March.
But before they make that run, they’ll need to load up on talent in two positions, of which one is the top-six forward group.
Questions follow, as Trocheck has a 12-team no-trade list and has a cost-controlled contract ($5.6 million average annual value), which makes him valuable in the eyes of GMs across the NHL.
What is Trocheck’s fate come March? If he’s dealt at the deadline, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman said that he wants to remain in the Eastern Conference, which gives Red Wings fans hope.
“From what I’ve heard about Vincent Trocheck, he doesn’t have complete control of the situation, but from the control he does have and the preference that he has expressed, he prefers to stay East”
– Elliotte Friedman
The Detroit Red Wings could pay what for Vincent Trocheck?
General manager Chris Drury will ask a nice sum for Trocheck’s talents:
“According to The Athletic’s Vince Mercogliano, the Rangers want a first-round draft pick and prospects/young NHL-ready players for the star center.”
The value is affordable for the Red Wings, who have a depth of prospects and assets waiting to find a purpose.
This year, a prospect and a draft pick could fetch a top-six, former 70+ point center in Trocheck, who could add some grit to the forward group in Detroit.
The only question is, will Steve Yzerman be willing to forego his conservative stance we’ve seen in recent years to make a move for Trocheck?
