As the Calgary Flames move forward this season, it seems that the team may be one of the more intriguing organizations across the NHL over the next few weeks. With the NHL trade deadline approaching, Calgary has a few players who could change the trajectory of the season, and teams may be looking to them for deals.

The 2025-26 season hasn’t gone to plan for the Flames, and now we could see a fire sale coming down the pipeline of this franchise. The big domino for this team is star Nazem Kadri, but Calgary has resisted dealing him for years now.

One other name that could be moved ahead of the trade deadline is veteran Blake Coleman. Coleman is an intriguing player who still has one more season left on his current deal, being scheduled to make $4.9 million next year.

Blake Coleman on the move?

According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, it seems that Calgary could be on its way to move away from Coleman. LeBrun is reporting that the Flames have received all sorts of trade calls about the veteran forward, and a deal could be had.

“Coleman is the player the Calgary Flames have received the most calls on this season. That’s because his game is especially fit for playoff time. He is a leadership/character guy with a versatile skill set and the ability to make an impact on both sides of the puck.

There’s no guarantee the Flames move him, but it’s going to be tough to resist the calls that will come closer to the deadline,” LeBrun wrote.

Tampa Bay Lightning Land Blake Coleman

One team that makes a lot of sense for Coleman could be his former stimping tround, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tampa Bay is looking for a way to improve its roster for the rest of the year, and bringing Coleman back could be an easy way to make it happen.

Coleman saw a lot of success while with the Lightning years ago, helping the franchise win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021. Tampa Bay has brought back a few players from the past, and Coleman could be next in line to get the band back together.

In 44 games played this season for the Flames, Coleman has scored 13 goals and put up eight assists. If he could be added to the second unit of the Lightning, it could see their attack be increased tenfold, especially for the postseason.

The Lightning would need to get creative to create a pathway for a Coleman deal due to cap space issues, but teams tend to find ways of making this go down. Tampa Bay general manager Julien BriseBois is as clever as any in the NHL, and if he feels Coleman is the missing piece, it could be worth making happen.

This team is in Stanley Cup-or-bust mode right now, so adding Coleman could push them over the top. The veteran would likely welcome a return to Tampa Bay, and another title could be in the future of this organization.
