Seth Jarvis, Travis Sanheim and Darcy Kuemper skated Thursday morning ans are expected to serve as healthy scratches for Team Canada’s opener against Czechia at Milano Cortina 2026 on Thursday.
Jordan Binnington will start in net with Logan Thompson backing him up. Head coach Jon Cooper had previously declined to name his starter, but said the team will use two netminders over their first two games as Switzerland awaits in a back-to-back on Friday.
Sam Bennett was listed as the extra forward in the lines released by Hockey Canada, with Shea Theodore serving as the seventh defenceman.
Jarvis, 24, sits out for Thursday’s game after being named to Team Canada last week as an injury replacement for Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point.
The Winnipeg native was a member of Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off team last February, and recorded one assist in three games while averaging 11:40 of ice time.
Jarvis has recorded 25 goals and 18 assists across 48 games played this season for the Carolina Hurricanes.
He is in his fifth NHL season after being taken with the 13th overall selection of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft out of the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks.
Sanheim has six goals and 24 points in 56 games this season with the Philadelphia Flyers.
The 29-year-old played in three of four games for Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off last February, posting one assist.
Selected 17th overall by the Flyers in the 2014 draft, Sanheim has 60 goals and 237 points in 635 career games.
Kuemper, 35, is the most experienced goaltender on Canada’s roster, and has previously represented Canada twice at the IIHF World Championship.
The 15-year veteran backstopped Canada to gold at the Worlds in 2021, and later helped the Colorado Avalanche to a Stanley Cup title in 2022.
A native of Saskatoon, Sask., Kuemper holds an 14-11-9 record with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in 36 starts for the Kings this year.
Following their opener against Czechia, Canada will face Switzerland on Friday before closing out preliminary play with a meeting against France on Sunday.
