Guess who. San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini didn’t wait to make an impact for Team Canada in their opening game.

Celebrini scored Team Canada’s first goal of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 with a beautiful deflection.

A smart change by Sidney Crosby’s line allowed Canada to get Celebirni’s line onto the ice late in the first. Cale Makar fired a slap shot from the right point, and the Sharks center had planted himself in front. Anaheim Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal appeared to have his glove side covered, but Celebrini tipped the puck down and celebrated.

Celebrini is skating with Connor McDavid and Tom Wilson in what is listed as Team Canada’s top line.

According to Sportsnet Stats on X, Celebrini became the youngest Canadian player to score an Olympic goal with NHLers in the tournament. The margin of age isn’t particularly close either, as the San Jose Sharks superstar is over two years younger than Jonathan Toews.

Toews was 21 years old and 305 days when he scored his first Olympic goal in 2010. Celebrini is just 19 years old and 244 days at the time of scoring the game-opening goal.

Canada would add two goals in the second period—one from Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone and the other from New York Islanders center Bo Horvat.
