Team Canada and Team Czechia started their pool play today in the 2026 Winter Olympics. Canada currently leads Czechia 4-0 in the third period. After the second period, Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Winnipeg Jets and Team Canada defenseman Josh Morrissey will be out for the rest of the game. He suffered an injury in the first period and didn’t play in the second period. He was paired with Colton Parayko on the second defensive pairing. Hopefully, nothing serious, as Elliotte Friedman also stated, due to Canada having now played, no injury replacement can be added to the roster.

Canada plays Switzerland tomorrow in the second game of their Pool Play schedule, and the defenseman not dressed today that would slide into that spot if Morrissey can’t go is Travis Sanheim. Morrissey played on 13 shifts with 7:10 time on ice. The goals for Team Canada have come from Macklin Celebrini, Mark Stone, Bo Horvat, Nathan MacKinnon. Morrissey, in 56 games with Winnipeg this season, has 42 points on ten goals and 32 assists. He’s a plus-ten with two power-play goals and a game-winning goal.
